West Kirby Shotokan Karate Club

Our Sensei is Jim Brennan (7th Dan) who has 40 years of experience of Shotokan karate.

Sensei Brennan is a senior instructor with the KUGB – Karate Union of Great Britain.

At West Kirby Karate Club we study the martial art of Shotokan Karate which originated in Japan and is now practised all over the world. The word Karate means “Empty Hand” in Japanese to show that no weapons are used.

Shotokan karate is considered to be one of the more balanced variations of karate, balancing speed and power techniques and using both kicks and hand techniques in equal quantities.

To study karate all you need is a reasonable level of physical fitness with the will to learn.
